Dr. Yasmin E. Gay
Dr. Gay started her career as a case manager providing support for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders involved in the criminal justice system. Serving as a case manager provided Dr. Gay the opportunity to experience firsthand internal and external factors that often serve as barriers and challenges as it related to an individual’s overall wellness. Dr. Gay continued to develop and perfect her craft as a human service professional and clinician. Her passion, drive, and keen awareness challenged her to become an advocate and active change agent by seeking solutions and providing needed support, while also producing measures that endorse continued growth and development among the clients she served and clinicians she managed and supported.
Dr. Gay has over 16 years of clinical experience providing administrative, direct care, and supervision in diverse settings for individuals with various disabilities and impairments. Dr. Gay specifically has honed her craft of providing collaborative supports to individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. She has served as an independent contractor and consultant to various agencies and clinicians providing supervision, clinical interventions, and recommendations as it relates to clinical and evidence-based practices. An area of best practice in which she firmly endorses is clinician preparation and development, especially in the area of substance use and mental health.
Dr. Gay is credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Clinical Supervisor (LCMHCS), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP). Dr. Gay is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Her areas of research include substance use and mental health disorders, trauma and trauma-informed care, interpersonal violence, older adults and aging, general wellness, burnout and impairment, counselor preparation and development, and clinical supervision.
Although Dr. Gay is highly passionate about the work that she does, she firmly recognizes that balance helps affirm your purpose. As a measure to achieve such, Dr. Gay enjoys shopping, cooking, baking, watching a good movie, getting massages, manicures & pedicures, traveling, and spending time with her husband, children, and pets.
Dr. Gay’s motto is “Always be and do what you expect from others and the world.” In order to do so, Dr. Gay believes one must be open to learn, grow, experience, live, and laugh….. all while trusting and having faith that each step of your path that is essentially designed uniquely for you!
